RodneyDangerfield: Joan Child reveals Mistake Late Comic Made in His Life

He was a beloved comedian who brought joy to many with his hilarious jokes and rib-cracking laughs. However, he had one regret, and his wife Joan Child shared it in an interview.

Rodney Dangerfield was a comedian who loved to make people laugh until his last breath. He was a natural comedian, which was evident for all to see.
However, this talent was born out of the comic’s dark past, which he suffered from until his death. Joan Child, his surviving wife, shared more details during her interview.

Report Of A Child

Joan Child said her husband suffered from depression despite being at his best. His only regret was his inability to find success in his career, and in romance, at the right time.

He wished they would have arrived earlier and hoped to live 120 years to make up the years of struggle.

Rodney Dangerfield’s Story

The late comedian was born Jacob Cohen in Babylon (New York) to a father who never saw him and a mother who never cared. Rodney, a young child, left uncared for and alone as a child, found comfort in making other people laugh.

His wife said he first got people to laugh at him when he was four years old. He was always hungry and wanted more food.

His mom told him that he had enough food. He replied that he didn’t have fish. The dinner party was a success. Everyone around him laughed, and it brought him joy.

Rodney became a standup comedian and singing waiter. However, he struggled with the former. After marrying Joyce India, a singer, he quit his previous jobs to start an Aluminium siding company. His accountant defrauded him, leading to $20,000.

He returned to comedy at that time, and his life was transformed. He was very popular and even got roles in acting.

Comedy was Rodney’s solution to his problems. His wife said that he booked shows for his birthday as a present to himself.

Rodney and India were divorced. They remarried and then divorced again. In 1970, the second divorce took place. India died in 1970. The comedian raised their children.

The Joan Child met the comedian later, and they fell in love. They were married in 1993, after ten years of being together. They were a great couple and spent 11 years together, filled with laughter, love, and romance.

Rodney Dangerfield, who was 82 years old, died in 2004 from complications following a heart valve surgery. Joan continues to carry on the legacy of her husband by telling his story to fans, new and old.

Paradigm Talent Agency is interested in a biopic or documentary about the life of the comedian.

The Mood Of A Marriage

Joan claims that their marriage is remarkably stable despite their differences. Dangerfield based the 2000 film “My 5 Wives” on stories Dangerfield heard about Utah polygamists who lived near her childhood home. She didn’t find it offensive to say things like, “One of the benefits of having five wives is that they can’t all get headaches at the same time.”

Dangerfield’s Declining health

Dangerfield’s health declined over time, requiring numerous aneurysm and brain surgeries as well as long periods of recovery with Joan at his side.

She said that he joked that all of the numbers in his black phone book were doctors. It was true, and it brought out my nurturing side. It is the most important role of a spouse to be a caregiver and I did my best to comfort him.

Dangerfield lamented, however, that his illness was not a fair one.

Joan noted that “He had finally found happiness and emotional stability after his physical illness put everything in danger.” He was a great person, and he embraced these situations with bravado, humor, and a lot of fun. Rodney was shocked when his heart surgeon informed him that he would need to have his aortic valve repaired with a biological porcine one.  Rodney Dangerfield wanted to know if he could get along with the pig and he didn’t mind what he had go through during recovery. He just wanted to get out of the hospital and live his life. He wanted to live to 120 and become a supercentenarian.

It was not to be. Dangerfield, who was 82 years old, died on October 5, 2004. Joan planned a lavish funeral and held the services in a cemetery.

She explained, “That may sound odd, but there was an adorable chapel on the grounds that was just a short distance from Rodney’s gravesite.” “And there was an area in the park that could be used for a reception.”

At dusk, attendees arrived through iron gates decorated with Rodney’s initials floral monograms. Garlands of garden roses were clung to the trunks and branches of the trees. Sparkling chandeliers fell from the branches. A white cashmere carpet covered the pathways leading to the chapel.
